He is best known for popularizing reggae music and for his powerful lyrics that addressed social issues, love, and spirituality. Marley began his music career in the early 1960s with the group The Wailers, which initially had a ska sound but later evolved into reggae. Their breakthrough came with the album Catch a Fire (1973), which brought international attention to reggae music. Marley’s subsequent albums, including Rastaman Vibration (1976) and Exodus (1977), solidified his status as a global icon. Exodus featured hits like “One Love” and “Three Little Birds,” showcasing his ability to convey messages of unity and hope. His music was deeply influenced by his Rastafarian beliefs, and he often incorporated themes of spirituality and social justice into his songs. Marley was also known for his energetic and charismatic live performances, which captivated audiences around the world. In 1978, he participated in the One Love Peace Concert in Kingston, which aimed to bring together opposing political factions in Jamaica during a time of civil unrest. Despite his growing success, Marley’s life was cut short when he was diagnosed with melanoma, a type of skin cancer, in 1977. He continued to perform and record music until his health declined.
