Chuck Berry was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist born on October 18, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, and is often considered one of the pioneers of rock and roll. His innovative guitar riffs, energetic performances, and distinctive style laid the groundwork for the genre. Berry’s 1955 hit “Maybellene” was a breakthrough, blending rhythm and blues with elements of country, creating a unique sound that defined early rock and roll. Throughout the late 1950s and 1960s, he released a string of influential songs, including “Johnny B. Goode,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and “Rock and Roll Music,” with his lyrics often capturing youthful rebellion and the spirit of the era. Berry’s use of the guitar became iconic, and his famous “duck walk” performance style became a defining characteristic of rock shows. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and continued to perform until his death in 2017, leaving a legacy as one of the most influential figures in music history.
